Thank you for sharing. Spent the weekend educating myself, donating, spreading the word. There is heaviness in the world. And as we go about our day to day, we struggle with the helplessness we feel. I go back to this Jane Goodall quote:
"I like to envision the whole world as a jigsaw puzzle... If you look at the whole picture, it is overwhelming and terrifying, but if you work on your little part of the jigsaw and know that people all over the world are working on their little bits, that's what will give you hope.”
I save your newsletter for when I can read every word without rushing through it, then I just want to read it again! I love the tarot card for the collective and just your insights generally. Thanks for sharing with the world!
As always your wisdom and ability to express with words so clearly how you feel and include us is so appreciated. This week’s newsletter has been so helpful at putting it all in perspective and helping us not only cope with it but see the possibility that we can and will deal with it. THANK YOU!
Caroline you have the knack at writing a post that feels just like a conversation you might have with a friend. Those talks where you share the subtle struggles that bring you closer to knowing a deep truth....and the friend recognizes everything you are saying which leaves you feeling so warm, connected and seen. Thank you! I look forward to our next "chat"...weekly post!
Corinne, that is the nicest compliment. The desire for connection is the entirety of why I write (especially here, especially when things are hard) so hearing this means the world to me. Thank you. ❤️
Your thoughtful and compassionate writing is a balm at a time like this.
Your mention of your winter coat reminded me off my first winter coat: a Green Bay packers starter jacket I picked at sports authority (because I liked the colors from all the available coats) when my family moved from LA to Chicago. I didn’t know the controversial stand I was taking by choosing a packers jacket. But it kept me warm.
Also have you seen Mare of Easttown? I loved it. But your card pill made me think of it; one character said to another “I forgave myself a long time ago. That’s my wish for you. That you can forgive yourself.” That’s powerful. I don’t have a whole lot of regrets in my life, but I sure do have a hard time forgiving myself for the ones I do have.
Yes, I loved Mare of Easttown! I think I devoured it in two days. And just saw that Kate won the SAG Award for it, too.
Laughed out loud at the image of a Green Bay starter jacket in Chicago. My partner (who grew up in Chicago) tells stories of wearing a Charlotte Hornets starter jacket, also chosen entirely out of a fondness for their colors. So funny how kids can make such arbitrary choices, but then again, when you get down to it, so many allegiances aren't based on much more!
Tonglen has supported me, too, ever since I read Chodron’s The Places That Scare You, which met me in a painful moment a few years ago when nothing else seemed to help. Thanks for this gentle check-in.
Michelle, thank you so much for sharing. I had an entirely different letter planned for this week, but as the days unfolded, it didn't feel right. So I scrapped it, chose a different card, and headed in a new direction. I am so glad to hear that it spoke to you. Connection (in all its forms) is such a miracle! Thinking of you and sending warm wishes.

What a wonderful quote, and so helpful to imagine it in practice. Thank you so much for sharing.
Wow, what a powerful message from start to finish! Thank you so much, Caroline!!!!
Thank you, Emma! ❤️

Thank you, Steph. I love the thought that you slowly savor the week's message – that's how I approach putting it together, too. That means so much.

The best book. I've turned to it over and over again and find something new every time. Thank you, Lauren.
