The most beautiful mirrors are not those made of glass, but other faces that see you clearly.….wow that is lovely. Thank you for writing this weeks letter- needed it.
The saddest thing to me about the excerpt you pulled from Dobbs is that it's not untrue - in a vacuum. I am not opposed to abortion being decided through the legislative process. And women do have electoral and political power! But the opinion refuses to see so many things - including the issues with access to voting, much less the ability to run for office, and the fact that the legislative process is just not working in this country. As with so many opinions handed down by the Court, what they write is not incorrect when the issue before them is treated like an academic exercise. But America (and women's bodies!) is not an academic exercise.
Yep. Exactly. And of course, it's all by design. Civic engagement is important, but with the system's flaws, we all know that alone cannot work. And the insinuation that this issue affects only women — and is women's alone to solve — is just as wrong.
Goosebumps all over from reading this. Also, tears. Give em hell! Give em hell! Give em hell! Be a trouble maker. Make it a challenge. Women are strong and complicated and are the masses. A new day is on its way.
I have been thinking a lot about the role that joy and art and beauty play when we are all activated towards justice and liberation. What you wrote here really resonated and I'm grateful for your call to arms being balanced with a spiritual, grounded invocation.
What’s happened, and is happening, is terrifying and spreading far faster than I think we realise. I keep trying to persuade my friends that we need a global women’s strike. Our rights, our lives, are violated continually and marches are not enough. We need to lay down tools. They are the same ones that built the “master’s house” after all.
Absolutely, to all your points. Have you read the Rebecca Traister piece in The Cut from last week? She acknowledges the realism of the situation and concludes with, "many of us will not live to see today's calamity reversed." But her point is ultimately that despair is poison and we must proceed with hope. It's excellent and worth a read: https://www.thecut.com/2022/06/rebecca-traister-on-the-necessity-of-hope.html.
I loved this - thank you Caroline. Let’s give ‘em hell together!
Caroline, I am so grateful for you and the wisdom you share.
Thank you, Tag. ❤️

Wow, Caroline. This made me cry! I'm a fellow woman's woman who grew up in suburban NJ.

Forever a woman’s woman. Now more than ever ❤️
Loved this! Give ‘em hell indeed!
Thank you Caroline! Sometimes I find it hard to keep going... today is one of those days. Give 'em hell, is right!
Thank you, Yvonne. I'm right there with you.
