Oooh, I liked "Pretend that you are experiencing something for the first time. Pretend that you are experiencing it for the last." And I'll share what my husband and resident bromide connoisseur says frequently, "If you don't like the way things are, take heart because it will change! And if you like the way things are, enjoy because it will change!" While it can be irritating to hear as well as depressing and hopeful, it's incredibly accurate!
I love that meditative practice you do, imagining it's the first time or the last time. I will absolutely have to start doing that myself! Brilliant newsletter, thank you.
I appreciated your essay this week, as always, Caroline! Congrats on the marathon and I hope your injury is healing!
I just want to throw this out there to offer a different perspective : I think it is okay if there are phases of your life that you never miss. I think I am in one now. My children are 3 and one and a half and I am a SAHM and I am struggling. I feel exploited by our (misogynistic, capitalistic) society. I do not think I am going to miss this. Do I miss one year ago when I had a 2 year old and 6 month old and was up several times a night breastfeeding? Hard no.
Do I miss the experience of playing division 1 basketball? Nope. 4 years of my life that I don't miss. (Another period of exploitation, in my opinion. Economic exploitation -- I could not afford college otherwise; I felt I had no choice, no agency.)
I know this sounds anti-all-spiritual-teachings-ever, but in my most difficult moments, I have found peace living in the future. I knew college would end. I know my kids will one day, God willing, toilet themselves. I am, currently, very much in a the Power of Five Years from Now mindset, rather than the Power of Now, and I think that's okay.
The synchronicity is: this is the first time I have looked at this newsletter, and I am the queen of pentacles. I am a Capricorn, of the Earth, possessing many of the qualities that are described here.

I love this. The peace found in the truth that everything changes.
"I am here and it is now."
Similar. My saily mantra.😊
