Well, I for sure thought that was a photo from a magazine, so that was eight hours well spent. (Also I am currently procrastinating only slightly from a deep office cleaning and clearing, so thanks for the inspiration!)
We call rearranging spots in our home "going on vacation." 😄 Who's to say moving those 8 feet doesn't offer another vantage point? Or a new observation? Or some semblance of renewal, peace or balance? Implementing small, fun changes can really do wonders when life feels out of whack. So happy to read your words again. Thank you for this generous gift (both your writing and the free month of it!)
I just learned that most of the rooms in my little house are filled with little acts of hope. I’ve got so many books, never enough time, but always hope. I love that.
Also, I can really relate to the therapeutic act of moving things around, taking time to look at them afresh and creating a new space within an old one. I think it’s a great way to move into a new chapter of life (or at least a new paragraph).
" I suspect the books provided something in short supply: they made her feel lucky." Ooooooh, Sweet Caroline. ❤️❤️❤️ Also: Your office is spectacularly lovely. And: Glad you're back amongst us. You've been missed. xx
Thank you for your generous gift! You really didn't need to do that but how lovely of you to be so gracious to your subscribers who love you so. Thank you also for making me feel so much better about buying and hoarding so many books. It is an act of hope, indeed, and I will continue to ward off mortality with my ever-growing stack. Did you know there is a Japanese word for buying books faster than you can read them? (Of course, there is...) Tsundoku. That is my gift to you—the gift of this perfect word.
Books representing an act of hope...so real. After my mom passed, I found books with the book marker in the middle...unfinished. I also found a knitting project...also unfinished. It would normally make me very sad that she never had the chance to finish these...but it made me think that she lived her life with HOPE. That there will be time and opportunity and that's what kept her going through her illness. And it was a reminder to me to live like that. So when my time comes, I will leave behind lots of projects, lots of stuff going on...
Your space looks gorgeous! So glad to hear from you. I don’t know why loss seems to come at us in waves...tsunamis..but it does. If it helps--you’re not alone.
Love to hear your voice again.
Thank you, Jen. ❤️

Thank you! I'm not so great at cleaning, but arranging (and rearranging) might be my favorite pastime.
Yup, I can relate to this!
Collecting books as an act of hope—that's going to stay with me. Thank you for sharing such a beautiful memory about the Goodreads giveaways.
I think corporate executives are permitted glittery laptops and sheepskin seat covers, yes? 🤩

Oh, I love this! It’s true, for such a seemingly small change it can really make a big difference!
That's a throne!
That desk placement is epic!!! Gives devil wears Prada vibes in the best way possible 🤩
Oh, that is the highest compliment! Thank you!!
Beautiful office, beautiful writing! Thank you for your generosity! xo. p.s. James Baldwin forever and ever.
Thank you! (And of course, I wholeheartedly agree)

Thank you! Your space is just beautiful
Thank you!
What a fantastic rug!
Thank you!
I absolutely love that you have arranged your books primarily by color. As a painter who loves books and reading, I am inspired by this!
Thank you!! Fiction lives on another wall, not organized by color. But there is something so visually satisfying about it; I couldn’t help myself!
Your book wall is what dreams are made of!!
Thank you!
