I RELISH these Sunday reflections and still I’m feeling a little like Ben Affleck’s character in good will hunting when he tells Will he wants to drive up and find him gone one morning. I hope these Sundays away will afford you time for the big, life-giving work that’s yours to do. (And hooray if that ends up being more of this!) Thank you, also, for the permission to break or pivot, which you’re modeling so gracefully. I feel the itch coming, too. Your example helps.

Oh My GAWD at Gnocchi 😍 WHAT A BABE!

I hope you have so much deep rest and relaxation on your break, Caroline. May you do much of nothing at all. I'm proud of you 💕

THANK YOU (all caps bc it’s from Gnocchi, too)! Appreciate your support, in all ways. Truth be told, I’m planning to spend much of this time trying to make headway on my novel, and planning future newsletters, and experimenting with… recorded video readings?? But! I already feel so much lighter knowing I have the space to do this. 🙃

This letter comes at just the right time -- I am training for my first marathon and today I DNF'd my first long run of this training block (a half marathon with a horrible, excruciating elevation route in 90-degree weather and just as much humidity). To me, it's a pivot, a lesson -- what did I learn? I learned that being smart now will mean that I will be healthy in the future. Also learned that I still showed up and did 8.3 miles (mostly walked) and any miles are good miles!

Yes! I’m currently training for a marathon and also DNF’ed my too-hot long run yesterday, so I very much feel this. But it sounds like you got exactly what you were meant to from the experience — and showing up plus mental toughness are at least half the game. If you’re up for it, please keep me posted on the rest of your training and marathon experience! I’d love to hear about it. (When it comes to tarot and running, I can never get enough!)

Once again, in a by now expected but nevertheless startling way that I can only describe as “uncanny,” you’ve put into a few concise words something I’ve been grappling muddily around all week. I know you’re not my personal witch, but sometimes it feels like it. Have an amazing break and thank you as always for strewing your thoughts here.

YES I am so on board with you taking a break! I have become profoundly anti-streak, and if anything starts to look like it's going to track my progress, I refuse to even have it record me at all. There was a Duolingo streak back in the day, and when I hit 200 I realized I could barely speak Spanish at all, and my time was better spent staring into space while holding a book written in Spanish, and stepping away from that petulant owl.

After reading the rest of this post, I let out a little breath of relief for you when I read you are taking some time to yourself. Good. For. You.

I love your card readings, but if one Sunday you find yourself uninspired to write one… tell your(self) boss to go for a walk ;) sending you lots of restful vibes ☀️

PS I knew *exactly* what streak you were going to reference one sentence in because my husband had the same one going until his NYT app glitched and said he didn’t complete one day even though he swears he did. He lost it - temporarily - only to find the same relief you did. (Though he’s back at it lol)

Caroline,

Enjoy the break. And, I agree, a streak can be satisfying but breaking one is usually a great relief.

Thanks as always Caroline for stumping up here again despite, and I hope you can have a delicious hiatus! Lovingly coddled like a soft runny egg. There are no paths to Being. So just Be. And then you might be able the see if the juice is really worth the squeeze just like the 7 of Pentacles. 🤔 Take care

Loved this essay, and your decision to pause in August! Everyone is on vacation or watching the Olympics or otherwise away from their email inboxes anyway 😂 I hope this time is equal parts relaxing and restorative for you!

Because my love language is unsolicited advice: Schedule breaks. Take them even if you don't "need" them. For me, I pause in April, August and December for the full month (there are still posts, but something light and easy). I set this when I started my 'stack because I know my level of burn-out (it's just shy of apocalyptic). And it's been so helpful. Please enjoy this time, Caroline, and -- when you have a spare minute -- grab your calendar and start a take-a-break streak. xo

Loved this, Caroline, and cheers to taking a break! I just broke my 300+ day Duolingo streak a couple weeks ago and I feel so liberated. There were nights where I would be out with friends and run to the bathroom to complete my Duolingo before midnight. That owl really got me!

Also - I really enjoy Nicole Antoinette's writing on "enoughness" - she also hosts a workshop called "How Much Money is Enough?" https://www.nicoleantoinette.com/work-with-me
