I think writers who are tuned into the magical, the possible, and the creative will often overlap. I actually love it; it means there are more kindred spirits out there. We are all navigating this world with similar eyes, and we need more, not less, of that. Thank you for being one of those spirits.
That Everything Is A Remix YT video blew my mind when I first saw it! Such a relief! 😂 But if there can be two movies about an asteroid, and a volcano, (and gnomes, who knew?*) that come out the same year, and Star Wars rips EVERYONE off, then we should be able to enjoy one more story about taking down an evil tech magnate that builds an underground city to serve his fragile ego! But I totally get it. Caroline, I just hope that T-Bell idea makes its way into some new story of yours! Pure nacholicious gold!
Same! In a way it was reassuring to learn that some of the best artworks have been spin-off other's ideas. And I agree: feels like we need more stories about taking down evil tech magnates (now more than ever)!
Picked up my phone to look up the etymology of “influence”, and saw that I missed the notification from Substack for your post last night. So I came here first, of course.
From etymonline, “late 14c., an astrological term, "streaming ethereal power from the stars when in certain positions, acting upon character or destiny of men," …(13c.), also "a flow of water, a flowing in," from Medieval Latin influentia "a flowing in" (also used in the astrological sense)”
Hmm. ✨ Slowly joining in the flow— thank you for being a guide along the way❤️🦦
I may have a new favorite of yours in this issue. And this right here is what every person who creates needs to remember - thank you for it:
"I waited for a hit of envy or annoyance or frustration, but it never came. It didn’t feel like a missed opportunity, or a moment not seized. It felt like running into an old friend. A guidepost that my instincts are good, my treatment is worthy. Keep going, it said. If not this one, maybe the next."
Lots of love to you, my friend and brilliant creative mind. xo
Love this (as always!), Caroline. I don't know if you've seen it or not, but I've been reading the book that the Bob Dylan biopic "A Complete Unknown" is based on (called "Dylan Goes Electric!") and it's fascinating to see and feel what the early 60s-era Greenwich Village was like, for musicians and artists of every kind -- they thought of themselves and operated less as siloed, individual artists and more as one big hive mind, constantly playing with and for each other, swapping lyrics and chord progressions and melodies, like they were all just playing one big song that went on forever. So, so cool.
Thank you, Terrell! I haven’t read it yet, but I’ll have to check it out! Sounds amazing, and like something my husband would enjoy reading, too. Thanks for bringing it to my attention!
Very interesting. Reminds me of the “Let Them" controversy /accusations I keep reading about lately surrounding the very popular Mel Robbins that she appropriated the phrase and concept from a viral poem by a lesser known poet Cassie Phillips, essentially popularizing the idea without giving proper credit, despite the phrase "Let Them" gaining significant traction online through Phillips' work before Robbins publicly discussed it in her "Let Them Theory" book and social media content. Valid? Or synchronistic timing… 🤔
It really is wild how much magic is swirling all around us, like gold dust in the zeitgeist.

I agree! And when there's overlap, it feels like tapping into something universal, which is so much more exciting to me. Thank you, Sam ❤️
Fittingly this reminds me of a couple pieces I wrote a couple years ago 😉- one of them about originality, entitled “everything is a remix”: https://sevensenses.substack.com/p/everything-is-a-remix
And the other about the synchronicity of ideas, shared by multiple people at the same time: https://sevensenses.substack.com/p/collective-idea

“Perhaps the art lies not in the ideas themselves, but in the translation.” …Yes! 💛
💛
This reminds me of Jung’s collective unconscious and synchronicity!

Wow, this is so beautiful. Both your perspective and your writing!
Thank you so much, Sara! I’m happy it spoke to you.
Beautiful! I've had this same experience more than once. It helps to think of it as magic!

“I’ll often receive a message in the ensuing days, from a writer telling me they’re working on a piece about a similar topic.” 😳😊
Haha. Always from writers I like very much!
I guess "great minds think alike" is not really applicable in an écho chamber...
Ideas floating in consciousness.
Ready to be plucked/picked by those who are receptive and molded ( remixed ) by different sparks of creativity.
