A quick note to say I’ve been quiet, but I didn’t forget about you. I’ve been down with a virus this past week and am just starting to feel (slightly) more human than sewer troll.
I’ll be back to business as usual on Sunday, but in the meantime, I wanted to check in and share a couple quick things.
It’s been a difficult week emotionally as multiple realities converge around us. I’ve been heartbroken by friends’ reports from L.A., bolstered by their stories of community, and reminded of our interconnectedness—across states and seas and species—a point sadly lost on many until tragedy arrives at their door.
There is far more to say, but for this crucial moment, here is a comprehensive spreadsheet (updated live) with resources, both for those impacted by the fires and those who want to help.
Friends on the ground in L.A. report that many places are currently overwhelmed with donations and volunteers, and that the most impactful way to help right now is a cash donation to the LAFD Foundation or local humane societies, particularly Pasadena Humane.
To any readers in the L.A. area, please feel free to comment with updates, requests, feelings, or anything you wish to share. We love you.
As promised last week, I’ve opened up a handful of appointments for 1:1 tarot readings in late January/early February.
This is a separate offering outside of the newsletter, exclusively for paid subscribers. It’s also my very favorite thing — connecting face-to-face is the most wonderful gift.
My style of reading is not predictive — less an exercise in fortune-telling and more of a conversation around symbols, dynamics, and possibilities. You are welcome to bring open-ended questions or areas for exploration…or just see what the cards have to say!
If you’re interested, you can read more about it here and book a time here. I look forward to seeing you.
I’ll be back with more on Sunday, including an overdue weekly reading and the official kickoff of the Embarrassing Book Club, which I’m very excited about.
Thank you, as always, for being here. x
Thanks for checking in. Always a source of joy to see your newsletter in my in box. Here in LA...been a bit overwhelmed, to say the least. As a native Angeleno whose childhood neighborhood in the Palisades has been decimated, my heart breaks for all my friends who lost their homes, their community...and for me, the loss of memories. I know memories are intangible...but places and structures remind us of loved ones who have passed and keep us connected in a way that our minds cannot.
My very first childhood home was in the Palisades. We didnt come from wealth. My parents worked hard and hustled after arriving in this country with student visas and $200 in their pockets. They built that home as they embarked upon their American Dream. They have since passed. And now so has the house...
The outpouring of support in our community has been inspiring. The vitriol from certain sectors of society outside of LA has been infuriating. I've felt so helpless, I've just been donating and volunteering as much as I can. We are resilient and we will rebuild. Thank you again for the words of support.
Wishing you well, Caroline. Los Angeles is my home and heart. To see it being destroyed is awful. For it to be maligned so harshly during this historic disaster, I'm ready to throw hands. There was no failure. You cannot predict wildfire, FFS. It's not like it booked a room. There was no scheduled playdate. We knew the winds would be bad, and fire was a strong possibility since the only rain we had last year was the equivalent of spittle (after the previous year's atmospheric rivers and flooding), but even the firefighters were saying, "Fire usually burns *up* the mountains. This fire burned down." Nothing was normal. We were prepared, but you can only prepare for so much. The system didn't fail; it was vastly overwhelmed. And Karen Bass gets to travel!!! Gah! So, in retaliation to the negativity and disinformation we've received, California will be keeping all of our avocados. Haters can enjoy their tariff guacamole. We will also be offering up the Kardashians to whoever wants them. Same for Mel Gibson, James Woods and Sarah Michelle Gellar. But the avocados stay here.❤️ xo
